We have heard what happens to our body when we start exercising; We loose weight. Loose fat and gain muscle mass. We even gain happiness due to the release of endorphins,. So it's normal to prescibe regular running activities to anyone with anger issues.
But we are not here to tell you what happens to your body. We are here to tell you what happens in
your body the second you start running. Lets break it down.
FIRST 30 SECONDS
The second you start running, your muscles start using adenosine triphosphate (ATP),
Which is the energy molecules your body makes from all the eba and rice you have eaten. Do
you remember that sudden burst of power you feel? that's your Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP). Let's see what happens between 31-90 seconds.
BETWEEN 31-90 SECONDS
Your cells start breaking down glycogen, which is a form of glucose fuel stored in your
muscles. Cells also pull glucose directly from your blood if you are running fast. This
is why running drops your high blood sugar levels. Your muscle also release lactic acid
which informs the brain that you are exercising.
BETWEEN 90 SECONDS AND 5 MINUTES
Your heart starts beating faster and start redirecting blood away from lesser functions such as
digestion to your muscles. This is because your muscle cell requires a high influx of oxygen
to make the best use of glucose.
WITHIN 10 MINUTES
Two things can happen; you feel weak or strong depending on your shape. You feel weak if you
have not been exercising. This is because of the normal demand and supply we learned
in Economics. You become weak because your ATP supply can not keep up with the demand. But
if you are in good shape, you start burning fat and glucose because your ATP
supply can keep up with the demand. The more you run, the more you burn fat.
AFTER 30 MINUTES
You start using up your energy like a car running out of fuel. You naturally slow down as your
breathing rate returns to earth. You will feel energized because your brain has triggered
a rush of a hormone known as dopamine.
Don't worry if you don't understand the meaning of ATP, hormones, endorphins and the rest.
Be ok and contented if you understand that running is good for you because it makes you healthier
and happier.
